My mom was with my dad for 36 years. He died in 2019. However, during the 2021 census, my mother had to tick the box “single or never married”. This lack of legitimacy accorded to meaningful non-marital relationships is not only insulting, it fails to capture an important aspect of how people live.
My suggestion to Barbara Gray (Letters, March 18) to continue her morning brain training is to try out what I do with the cryptic crossword on my iPad. I use the “reveal all” function and spend the rest of the day trying to figure out how the clues yielded the published answers. I’m afraid to say that most of the time I fail miserably.
If Barbara Gray is demoralized by the increasingly difficult quick crosswords, may I suggest that she switch to the password, which has been getting easier and easier for weeks.

Nice to see your photo (March 18) of NHS chief executive Sir Simon Stevens receiving his shot at Westminster Abbey. This is one way to avoid the £ 18 entrance fee.
