ABOU DHABI, December 12, 2021 (WAM) – The Ministry of Culture and Youth has revealed details of the second edition of the Al Burda Festival to be held at the Dubai Exhibition Center at Expo 2020 Dubai from December 19 to 21.

The three-day festival “Transcending Spaces, Discovering the World” is organized under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and coincides with the 50th anniversary of United Arab Emirates and carries the message of openness, coexistence and tolerance.

Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Youth, said: “The Al Burda festival honors Islamic arts and the greatness of Islamic civilization. The festival aspires to promote tolerance and human and cultural interaction through Islamic art, which embodies the rich heritage and values ​​of the great Islamic civilization.

She explained: “The Ministry of Culture and Youth chooses to see the world as a better place through art and culture. We want to use art as a means of communication between people of different cultures and backgrounds in the hope of forging stronger human bonds for a better future. This has been the principle underlying the Al Burda Prize since its inception 17 years ago. Launched in 2018, the Al Burda festival celebrates Islamic creativity and has become a very important world event in the cultural field, in general, and in the field of Islamic art. The festival promotes Islamic civilization, culture and history through the arts.

Al Kaabi noted that the United Arab Emirates, since its inception, has been an incubator of culture and diversity, with over 200 nationalities living in the country. “The Al Burda Prize highlights the role of the United Arab Emirates in bringing the idea of ​​human convergence to life. This year, the 16th edition of the prize has attracted more than 1,557 nominations from more than 56 countries around the world. Launched in 2004, Al Burda has congratulated over 300 artists worldwide in its major categories.The award has been an important vehicle to promote our culture and heritage by showcasing traditional Islamic arts.

Al Burda Festival Events

The Al Burda Festival features dialogue sessions that welcome intellectuals from the field of Islamic arts and culture, offer comprehensive topics and information on the latest trends and pioneering ideas shaping the future. The festival’s lectures and meetings feature insightful dialogues and discussions on the intersection of traditions, cultural heritage, advanced technologies, entrepreneurship, arts and culture.

The festival also features performances and films inspired by the Islamic world, which tell stories rooted in Islamic arts and culture, targeting audiences of diverse interests and age groups. The festival celebrates Islamic decoration, Arabic calligraphy, Nabati (popular) poetry and ornamentation.

More than 74 world-renowned speakers will participate in 65 programs including panel discussions, workshops and dialogue sessions during the three days of the Al Burda festival. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about Islamic art forms and witness performances inspired by cultures of the Muslim world. More than 15 exquisite Islamic art exhibits will be presented. The festival will also host 10 live performances from different regions of the world, including the Middle East, Asia and Africa. In addition to these, a range of documentaries and animated films and feature films, particularly targeting children, will be screened during the festival.

The UAE Ministry of Culture organizes the Al Burda Prize and Festival with more than 30 partners.

Al Burda Prize

The winners of the Al Burda Prize, one of the world’s most prestigious cultural awards in the field of Islamic arts, will be announced during the festival.

Launched in 2004, the Al Burda Prize reinforces the UAE’s message of tolerance and peaceful coexistence among the peoples of the world by highlighting the diversity of Islamic art and bringing people together through artistic and cultural endeavors.

The award celebrates the diversity of Islamic culture and artistic creativity and plays an important role in strengthening the soft power of the UAE. It shares UAE cultural values ​​and principles with the world while strengthening its relationships globally. It promotes cultural concepts and raises awareness of the richness of Islamic art and culture, thereby instilling pride in authentic culture, ancient heritage and tolerant Islamic cultural identity.

The Al Burda Prize has been awarded to 300 artists from all over the world in Islamic arts, the winners are creative ambassadors from various countries of the world and know Islamic history well. Al Burda defends Islamic history and has helped keep traditional art forms alive for our future generations.

Through the Al Burda Prize platform, the Ministry of Culture and Youth aims to strengthen its partnerships at local, regional and international levels with a three-pronged program, which includes cooperation with founding partners to develop artistic works and productions, as well as publications related to the festival. Second, the award forges cooperation with several knowledge partners and third, it brings together renowned speakers and participants to contribute to the sessions.
