How to increase the font size in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Opera


If you find yourself zooming in on web pages on a regular basis, here’s how to increase the font size in most browsers.

Most web browsers allow you to change their appearance, including theme and font characteristics. While you can change the font size using the traditional zoom feature (Ctrl + Mouse wheel up / down), it magnifies the rest of the page.

Fortunately, you can customize the font type and size for almost any browser, including Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Opera. Here’s how to do it.

How to change font size and type in Google Chrome

The process of changing the default font and text size in Google Chrome is straightforward. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Click on Following (three vertical dots) and select Settings.

  2. In the Settings tab, open the Appearance tab in the left pane.

  3. In the right pane, click the drop-down menu to Font size. It is set to Medium (recommended) default, but feel free to select Large / Very Large according to your need.

  4. To change the font type, click Customize the fonts. Here you can change the font type, width, etc.

Changes to the browser will take effect instantly. If you want to restore the default font properties, go to Settings> Reset and clean, then click Restore settings to their original defaults. Unfortunately, there is no way to reset the default fonts, so you will have to reset everything.

How to change font size and type in Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge and Chrome share a lot because they are based on the same Chromium platform. Here’s how to customize your preferences before in the Edge browser.

  1. In the Edge browser, click the Menu icon (three horizontal dots).

  2. To select Settings from the context menu.

  3. In the left pane, open the Appearance tongue.

  4. Scroll to the end of the page and locate the Fonts section.

  5. Click the drop-down menu to Font size and select Big Where Very large to increase the size of the text.

  6. Click on the Customize fonts button to further customize the font type and more.

You can override the font personalization manually. However, if that doesn’t work, go to Settings> Reset settings> Restore settings to default values. Click on Reset to confirm the Edge Settings reset action.

Besides the usual customization of font type and size, Firefox lets you change the font type for multiple languages. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Launch Firefox and click Menu (hamburger icon) in the upper right corner.

  2. To select Settings menu.

  3. In the General tab, scroll to Language and appearance section.

  4. Under Fonts and Colors, you can change the Default font and size.

  5. To change the colors of the text, background and links, click the button Color button.

  6. To change the font type for different languages, click the button Advanced button.

The Opera browser offers good options for customizing the appearance, including the ability to change the font type and size. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Launch the Opera browser and click on the Easy installation icon in the upper right corner.

  2. To select Access full browser settings from the context menu.

  3. In the Settings tab, scroll to Appearance section.

  4. Here, click on the drop-down menu for the Font size and select Big Where Very large to increase the size of the text. Click on Customize fonts to further modify the font properties.
