HIGH HALF OF ROUND 2 – FSU 3, WF 2

The Seminoles had an immediate response in the second set. Alex Toral started the inning with a solo shot over the left field wall. The circuit was Toral’s third of the year. Brock Mathis called the home run with a double down the left field line. Jordan Carrion had three hits with a single to the center. Jackson Green led Mathis with a sack fly to the center to tie the game at two. Jaime Ferrer drove Carrion in with a two-out single to center.

LOWER HALF OF ROUND ONE – FSU 0, WF 2

The Demon Deacons started the scoring in the first. Ross Dunn made his fourth start of the season for the ‘Noles. Michael Turconi sent a double down the left field line for Wake’s first base runner. FSU outfit Brock Wilken, the 2021 Cape Cod League MVP, hitless in the first two games of the series. Wilken came to life against Dunn as he lifted a flyball over the center field wall for a two-run homer. The HR, Wilken’s third of the season, traveled 440 feet.

LOWER HALF OF ROUND SIX – FSU 5, WF 1

Hubbart hit the rubber in the sixth despite pitching 97 in five innings. The southpaw walked the first batter but retired the next batter on a strikeout and a popout. The southpaw’s day ended as he hit Brendan Tinsman on the elbow with a two-strike fastball. With two sours and two sours, Jackson Baumeister entered the game. The first day didn’t last long. A walk loaded the bases. Two consecutive balls to start the next AB forced Jonah Scolaro to take over on the mound. Scolaro snatched a nasty 3-2 slider to swing Tommy Hawke as three Demon Deacons were blocked on base.

TOP HALF OF ROUND SIX – FSU 5, WF 1

Mathis started the sixth with his second hit as he fielded a 1-1 left pitch for a single. After two quick exits, Jackson Green came with the timely hit that FSU was looking for. The second baseman ambushed a first pitch fastball and sent it well over the left field wall for an unmistakably two-run HR. It was Greene’s first homer of the season. Perry produced a single on Hartle’s next pitch. Wake decided to stay with the freshman to face Ferrer for the fourth time. Once again, the Puerto Rico native has arrived in Hartle. A line drive from his bat bounced off the shortstop’s glove. Ferrer rushed to second place for a brace. A pitch to second got Perry all the way around first to score and give FSU a 5-1 lead. Aggressive baserunning gave Ferrer his third brace. He now leads FSU with seven doubles on the season.

BEST HALF OF ROUND FIVE – FSU 2, WF 1

The Seminoles quickly regained the lead. Ferrer opened the fifth with his second brace. The double also made him 3-3 on the day. The freshman dropped to third place on an errant pickoff. Lacey drove it with a short groundout.

FOURTH ROUND BOTTOM HALF – FSU 1, WF 1

Things got adventurous in the bottom half. A step and a single put runners into turns with a setback. Wake tested Lacey’s arm on a short steal to center field. Michael Turconi beat the pitch at home but missed home plate. Turconi walked halfway to the Demon Deacons dugout. Mathis attempted to find Turconi to tag him, but he tangled with the batter on the deck and missed Wake’s runner, allowing him to run to the plate for the even run.

TOP HALF OF ROUND FOUR – FSU 1, WF 0

FSU charged the no-outs in the fourth after three straight singles from Roberts, Mathis and Alex Toral. The Seminoles could only get one point from the game against the first-year starting pitcher. Roberts went through the plate as Carrion sank in a 6-3 GDP. With runners on the corners, Isaiah Perry was called on a 3-2 fastball over his letters to block two runners on base.
