Duggan was riding the Cody Morgan-driven Steamboat Sally when she sank into the grass atop the straight, with veteran hoop Thompson also unhooked after her Mount Tombolo (Rodney Northam) was caught in the incident.
Tombolo and Steamboat Sally both came out largely unscathed from the fall.
Meanwhile, in Toowoomba, apprentice jockey Ty Wheeler was rushed to hospital after being kicked in the assembly yard while tying a horse for master John Thomas.
Wheeler was due to make his racing debut at Gatton on Saturday, but that seems to be put on ice.
